From 6 to 8 December, a delegation from the Netherlands Embassy, the Dutch agency Investment International and the Netherlands Commission for Environmental Assessment (NCEA) visited the Chalan Beel area (Gurudaspur and Singra) to better understand the local context with respect to water dynamics, agriculture, fisheries, biodiversity, livelihood and socio-cultural aspects.
The “ Revitalization and Restoration of Chalan Beel” is a fast track priority program under the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 and the 8th five year plan. The Netherlands is interested to provide support to the sustainable development of Chalan Beel.
The Planning Commission of GoB organised the mission and was actively involved in the discussion process. CEGIS also accompanied the group. They discussed with different segments of people (including agricultural community, fishermen communities, local journalists, civil society, respective line agencies and local elected representatives) about their experiences, challenges, and aspiration for the future of Chalan Beel.
It was an interactive and informative discussion appreciated by both the Bangladeshi and Netherlands delegation.
