Foreign Minister urged Indonesia for including the RMG products in bilateral PTA

Foreign Minister Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen, MP urged Indonesia to consider favourably the request of Bangladesh for including the RMG products for accelerating the conclusion of the proposed bilateral PTA.
He made this call during his meeting with H. E. Mr. Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Minister of Industries of Indonesia, in Jakarta today. While stressing the importance of further strengthening the bilateral trade, HFM called for reducing the yawning trade gap.
The Indonesian Minister assured HFM of resuming the fourth round of the Trade Negotiations Meeting soon leading to the conclusion of the proposed Bilateral PTA preferably in this year of the Golden Jubilee of diplomatic ties.
HFM extended an invitation to the Indonesian Minister for a visit to Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time this year, according to releases by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh.

Foreign Minister Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen, MP delivered a lecture on Bangladesh-Indonesia Bilateral Relations at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies in Jakarta today.

Giving an overview of the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Indonesia, HFM expressed satisfaction at the existing level of bilateral engagements & cooperation. He observed that both the countries work together being inspired by a common vision for regional and global peace and stability.
Explaining the contributing factors behind the phenomenal socio-economic development in Bangladesh, particularly in the last decade, HFM encouraged the potential Indonesian entrepreneurs to grab the opportunities prevailing in the fast developing economy of Bangladesh. He offered an economic zone for Indonesian investors out of the 100 economic zones Bangladesh has been developing.
Dr. Momen expressed keenness of Bangladesh for a more institutionalised relations with the ASEAN. He stressed the importance of accelerating connectivity between Bangladesh and the South East Asian countries.
Highlighting the extreme pressure the burdens of an additional 1.1 million displaced people from Myanmar inflicted on Bangladesh, HFM called for an urgent repatriation of the Rohingyas to their homeland in the Rakhine State in Myanmar.
In the mean time, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam, MP who is on a official visit to Brazil witnessed MOU signing between the Foreign Service Academy of Bangladesh and Instituto Rio Branco (Foreign Services Academy of Brazil) on 18 July 2022.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam, MP and Foreign Minister of Brazil Carlos Alberto Franco França signed an Agreement on the Exemption of Visa for Diplomatic and Official Passports followed by a call on the afternoon of 18 July 2022.

Bangladesh-Indonesia bilateral meeting held

Bangladesh-Indonesia bilateral meeting was held in Jakarta yesterday. Foreign Minister Dr. A K Abdul Momen and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia Retno L P Marsudi led the respective delegation in the discussions. They exchanged felicitations on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries. 

 

Both countries agreed to accelerate cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, agriculture, food, energy, health & pharmaceuticals, connectivity ICT, tourism, halal trade, human resources development, defence, youth & cultural exchanges, etc. They expressed optimism that the MoUs in the pipeline would be concluded soon. They stressed on concluding the bilateral PTA for further strengthening the economic cooperation. 

 

Dr. Momen sought a proactive support of Indonesia and of the ASEAN for an early repatriation of the stranded Myanmar nationals from Bangladesh to Myanmar. He also requested for an expeditious decision on Bangladesh’s candidacy for the Sectoral Dialogue Partnership of ASEAN. 

 

After the official talks, the two Foreign Ministers made brief press statements. Finally, the official logo for the Golden Jubilee celebrations & the translation of the historic 7th March Speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Indonesian language were also unveiled by the two Foreign Ministers.

 

Dr. Momen met Indonesian Minister of Trade

 

Foreign Minister Dr. A K Abdul Momen met the Indonesian Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan in Jakarta yesterday. The two Ministers reviewed the trade relations between the two countries and agreed to expedite the conclusion of the bilateral PTA in this year of Golden Jubilee of Diplomatic Relations. Dr. Momen requested the Indonesian side to consider favourably Bangladesh’s request for inclusion of RMG items in the PTA in order to address the yawning trade gap. Dr. Momen invited the Indonesian Trade Minister to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time this year.

 

In the evening, Dr. Momen addressed a gathering of Indonesian business persons and investors urging them to invest in Bangladesh availing the opportunities prevailing in the fast developing country. He also unveiled a commercial stamp issued by Bangladesh Embassy in Jakarta in celebration of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
