Transforming lives of farmer families – Prerona Foundation-Bengal Meat collaborate to facilitate sustainable farmer livelihood

Prerona Foundation and Bengal Meat signed an MoU to procure cattle from thousands of farmer families in Kushtia and Rangpur

Dhaka June 23 2022 :

Prerona Foundation and Bengal Meat have developed a unique value chain that will allow Bengal Meat to collect high quality cattle from Prerona Foundation’s community development project farmer beneficiaries in Kushtia and Rangpur.

In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has recently been signed between the two organisations at Prerona Foundation’s office.

The aim of the new project, “Safe Protein Farming”, is to facilitate the creation of additional livelihood opportunities for thousands of farmer families who are part of Prerona Foundation’s community development projects in various locations across the country. The Foundation has created a market linkage, enabling the farmers to sell the cattle reared by them to Bengal Meat. In the long term, the project will have positive impact on the socioeconomic wellbeing of the farmer families. Successful implementation of the project will further support in ensuring education and skills development of the farmers, enabling empowerment of the farmer families. Additionally, the project will also ensure a supply of safe and high quality protein for the consumers of Bengal Meat.

Mubina Asaf, Director, Governing Body, Prerona Foundation, said, “Bangladesh has made significant strides in driving best practices in cattle rearing and animal husbandry, over the last few decades.

Our farmers are now more aware of how to rear cattle and livestock that are healthy and are a source of safe protein for the people to consume. Thanks to Bengal Meat for supporting us in bringing cattle-rearing farmer families from Kushtia and Rangpur under this initiative.

We look forward to expanding the footprint of this project, and helping our community development project farmer beneficiaries to attain financial and social stability through such collaboration”.

“Bengal Meat remains committed to providing safe protein to its customers and considering their trust in our brand as a source of safe protein, we have taken this initiative with Prerona Foundation to source high quality cattle from their project beneficiaries.

What Prerona Foundation has been doing for the marginalised communities through its various community development projects is definitely worth appreciation, and our thoughts and ethos are aligned, as both the organisations are working to facilitate sustainable livelihood opportunities for the farming communities”, said Mohammad A Moyeen, Managing Director, Bengal Meat.

“We hope this collaboration will be strengthened in the days to come that will help in uplifting the conditions of cattle farmers under the Safe Protein Farming initiative”, he added.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Mubina Asaf, Director, Governing Body, Prerona Foundation; and its CEO Md. Azizur Rahman FCS. While Bengal Meat was represented by its Managing Director, Mohammad A Moyeen; Mahbubul Alam, Company Secretary; Krishantha Wijesooriya, General Manager, Supply Chain; and Rezaul Karim Shameem, Manager, Operations.
